The Austin Ice Bats are excited to introduce Dr. Westin Michaud as our new Head Coach and General Manager!
A true hockey journeyman, Westin holds the single-season points record for the NAHL Corpus Christi IceRays. His playing career is a testament to his skill and adaptability: from the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede to NCAA Division I with Colorado College Tigers and North Dakota Fighting Hawks (NCHC). Professionally, he’s showcased his talents across North America (AHL’s Manitoba Moose, Lehigh Valley Phantoms; ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks, Maine Mariners, Savannah Ghost Pirates) and Europe (Banska Bystrica in Slovakia, Odense Bulldogs in Denmark, and Nottingham in the UK), maintaining nearly a point-per-game average throughout his career.
Now, with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership focusing on player-coach relationships, Westin brings this wealth of experience to our team. As owner of Northland Hockey Development Academy, he’s proven his skills in player development and program management.
Westin’s diverse background – from record-setting player to educator to business owner – uniquely equips him with the leadership, communication, and operational skills needed to excel as both Head Coach and GM. His global perspective and commitment to fostering competitive yet healthy environments align perfectly with our club’s vision.
Welcome to the team, Coach Michaud! We’re thrilled to have your passion for education, player development, and hockey innovation driving our program forward.
